2011: Year of the 2K11 24/7
Awwww yeah! Welcome to 2011, everyone :) I hope you had a riveting New Year's Eve - mine was mostly low-key, hanging out with Sarah and some friends and mostly-unsuccessfully playing some board games. Good times. Also, I was looking at my contest entry on http://bit.ly/CaseySpikey to make sure that I didn't drop further - but it worked out just fine. Still 21st. (Make sure to get your vote on daily until January 3rd, or I'll have to bust out the sad Casey face :(!!!)
Another new year comes rife with the ideas of opportunity, the promise that things will happen (whether we like it or not) and that we can possibly correct some of the errors that we made in past years.
So first off - I didn't really make a specific resolution. No, I've kinda done something even MORE awesome - thought about the creation of a MOVEMENT. But, I've come up with the name to brand it with (and already reserved the domain name to apply to it later).
Are you ready for it? It's...
The 2K11 24/7
Yes, hot on the heels of the 2010 20K, I've come up with another cool name, but... I don't have a good strategy behind how it all works. Hey, but let's get to that later.
The 2010 20K - so like I've alluded to in previous posts, yeah, didn't go as well as planned. If we take a look at the numbers:
- Total Earned: ($132.14 + $121.00 + $100.00 + $125.00 + $5.00) = $482.14
- Total Unearned: ($60.00 + $40.00) = $100.00
...it definitely shows that I was WAY short of $20,000.00 - but I learned a lot through the course of doing that blog:
- Doing business with people can often be difficult
- Only promote something that you believe in
- Sometimes avoiding a hefty fee is just as good as having made money
- You may want to do every contest known to humankind, but really, there're only so many hours in a day, which is something that needs to be remembered.
So, as of now, I declare the 2010 20K closed - feel free to comment or email with any remarks you'd like to make about it - I think it was a good learning experience, and I'll be taking many of those ideas into this new year with me.
But what of this year coming up? Well, the 2K11 24/7 is going to focus on something that I should be doing every day of my life - every minute. It could be a viewpoint to keep in mind, a certain approach to life. Being nicer to strangers? Trying to swear less? Really, the possibilities are wide open here - I'll be looking for suggestions on how I should approach this project, because I really feel that I can pull off something great this year - I'm going to commit to blogging consistently to start with; it will start as a blog per day to let you know what progress is with the things I do - but it might be divided between this blog and Doomz Now and Forever, until I better figure out what the difference between the two is :S
What I'm looking forward to in 2011 includes:
- Going to more tweetups to meet more people and have more great times with the friends I've made in 2010
- Building a stronger sense of community in Toronto - we have so many talents and interesting people in this city, and I think we can all come together more often to do amazing things
- Get Fish 'n' Chimps back up - I'll probably start continuing the comic by firming up the sketches I've done and just go from there. There's been a lot of story put together, and I'm ready to keep developing it
- Develop my inner developer - there's sites and apps that need developing, and I'm not about to expect anyone else to do it for me, soooo...
- Getting a Canon EOS 7D to up my photography game (birthday gift 2011 - very much looking forward to this!)
- Getting married (duh.)
- Cleaning up. Everything. You'll see what I mean when I get my trailer video done for this. Yes, a trailer. I just need to figure out a good, free video editor for the Mac and I'll go from there
- And most obviously, getting more votes for the Wolfram Alpha contest here: http://bit.ly/CaseySpikey - 21st place is NOT a fun place to be :(
Righto, so help me out on the path I should follow this year - I think I'll have it better defined in a few days, but any help is appreciated!
Have a great year, all - looking forward to some amazing things happening!
Later!
