Doomz tackles a major challenge. A year at a time with daily updates! |
Hey all,
So I have a lot of posts that are in "draft" status at the moment, so I figure you could do with hearing my voice, since it's been a little while. Enjoy a little slice of my life as I try to keep improving the things around me and trying to create a diamond out of the rough clutter all around me.--Casey E. Palmer

Sometimes our nights go longer than expected. Couple this with the fact that family is important, and you come to a simple fact - sometimes writing an awesome blog post won't be one's first priority.
Sad as that is, I try my best to plan for such occurrences with a wealth of half-written content and advice provided to me by friends of mine.So I did a lot of writing while I was away on vacation. Seriously. A lot. I wrote when travelling, when up at nights in apartments, when Sarah wanted to go off to the pool to enjoy the water (and if you don't know, I loathe water if it's not a hot shower). This entry, in particular, was one I put together while having a horrible day where we were stuck in Charles de Gaulle airport. I could tell you about it, but other than learning how to be extremely patient, I don't know if this blog is the place to put it!
Sometimes you need to travel a long ways to find the inspiration you need to continue on — sometimes you’ll find it as close as your own backyard.
When travelling through some of Italy’s countryside, I paid close attention to my surroundings. Partially for pickpockets, making sure I wouldn’t have to slug anyone with a strong right. But MOSTLY because it was a source of inspiration for me to take another look at some of the designs I’ve made. For instance, looking at the structures that were put together to harvest lemons in Sorrento gave me the gusto I needed to design “Tree Town” for my comic.
Sometimes you've gotta go the short but sweet route.
Some days it's challenging to come up with a blog topic. Especially when you're tired. Especially when you're tired and you really haven't done much over the course of a day.
You're more driven to follow your passion at the times where you're trying to avoid doing something that you're SUPPOSED to do.So it's my first full day back on Canadian soil, and my first full day back with no deadlines looming over my head. Feels pretty good. I promise that stories and pictures from the three weeks abroad will be shared, but there were other things that required my more immediate attention.
Unpacking. Organizing the house with all the new stuff we got from the wedding. Starting the laborious task of combining the stuff from my old life at home with those of my new life with Sarah. This is not a one-day job. I've re-discovered things that were at the bottom of boxes, that were at the back of cabinets - I've likely never been as organized as I am right now. Ever. And yet my thoughts couldn't be more discombobulated. One is never truly ready for the changes that life will have in store for them, but even if they don't know it, they are always adequately equipped. Over the coming days, I'll be going through all the notes I made while travelling, as a day wouldn't pass by without me scribbling SOMETHING in the notebook that's definitely seen better days. But this day, there's not much I can enlighten you with. Here's a sampling of what I learned today, and I hope it helps you in life: * The farther you get from a city's downtown, the more the signage on the front is inaccurate - for example, the hours of operationSo let's start with the obvious — I'm MARRIED. Everyone I know an believe it just as little as I can, but there's a ring on my left ring finger, my phone has been buzzing constantly with well wishes from friends on Facebook and Twitter, and I suddenly feel some relief from no longer having to plan such a MAJOR event. I'd totally tell you all about it, but I'm exhausted and between an intense reception and getting ready to vanish from the public eye for a few weeks.
