The 2K11 24/7 CXCVIII: The Quest for Quality

One of the things about getting married is that you'll have to transition to a new lifestyle. New ways to look at things. New places to PUT your things.

One of my favourite things that I brought with me from my parents' place is my old IKEA bookshelf. I remember paying a pretty penny for it (or what seemed like a pretty penny when I was still a student): it's tall, it's sturdy and it's carried the load of my voluminous collection of books for years.

But it's not enough.

The 2K11 24/7 CXCIV: Shoppin' Ain't Easy

When we're young, our parents often lie to us. They mean well, but the wrong lies can often limit our preparation for the big, bad world out there.

Examples:

  • "You can be anything you want to be if you just put your mind to it" — TRANSLATION: If you're 5', SURE you COULD be an amazing basketball player, but it will take a LOT more of your mind to hone the extra skills needed to surpass your 6'6" opponents than it would for them
  • Or how about "It doesn't matter whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game" — TRANSLATION: In our highly competitive world, there are certain rules to need to play by. And you'll be loved by your parents regardless of how you perform in the world — but probably moreso if you're successful and not under your parents' roof forever and a day consuming all of their resources

But there's one that's driven many of our actions for quite some time and won't stop anytime soon:

"You can have it all."

Today's epic purchase: The Columbia St. Pierre Shell

I'm telling you - this thing is sweet. Fits perfectly, looks stylish and feels like it can block out any wind that comes at me. I'm going to wear it with pride.

And it doesn't hurt that I got 55% off the price due to certain (completely legal) connections that I find myself happily aligned with.

Columbia Sportswear | St. Pierre™ Shell. Gon' getcha some, gon' gon' getcha some :D

Entry 0001: Genesis.

Okay, let's get down to the nitty-gritty.

So I've been promising people for a while now that I'd have a new blog with a new direction going on, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. But I had to stop and think about that one - there's how many blogs on the Internet already about people and their lives that nobody really cares about? I mean, sure, many people of "Generation Please-Attach-a-Letter-Here-so-Social-Scientists-Can-Better-Label-Us" probably have multiple blogs:

-the blog they use to keep up on downloads from other blogs
-the blog they use to trick their parents into thinking that they lead a wholesome, trouble-free life
-the blog that people keep on lockdown to get all emo with - whining, crying, moaning, groaning, all the fun stuff

Yeah, this won't be falling under any of those categories. Instead, I found myself looking at my bank account balance one day, and found myself trying to figure out where the hell all my money had gone. It really doesn't help that I do enough of my transactions in cash so I can stash the change away for a rainy day.

So then it came to me! It was a glorious moment in the shower, and I nearly slipped and killed myself, but I'm okay, I swear! I need to make a blog about my life. A blog where I can rate and track what the hell happened, since I obviously don't know. All the crap I buy, the places I eat, the stuff I read! Yes. Yes, this will be excellent.

Stay tuned, all!

P.S. Mom and Dad, as you'll probably come across this blog as I grow in popularity and stature, yup, it's pretty much all true. But don't worry. If you have come across this, I'm probably reasonably wealthy by this point, so you don't really have to worry.
